My name is Bella Kalkbrenner. I am 17 and as I have gotten older my enthusiasm for holistic health and environmental health has grown. I love being outside immersed in nature. Whether its climbing in the mountains or surfing at the beach, you will find me happiest there.
The authenticity of nature has helped me realize that nothing natural can be perfect- however, that does not mean it is not beautiful. Imperfection is genuine, organic, unique, and undeniably beautiful.
I began making necklaces for fun out of the shells and seaglass I would find on the beach while walking with my dog River. Every shell and sea glass piece is absolutely unique, which I think is very special.
I named by business River and Rosemary after my dog River who has brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined; who shows unconditional love and seeks adventure with me. And Rosemary because it thrives near the sea; "Rosmarinus" means “dew of the sea”.
Rosemary also represents loyalty and friendship, an important message in how we should treat ourselves, and our planet. There is vitality in self love and environmental connection. By being accepting and present in the world we are part of, we are able to find joy, importance and beauty in everything.
It is important to me that I create handmade jewelry with yours and the environments best interests at the root. The star of most of my jewelry is sea glass and shells that my family and I find on the beach.
My jewelry steers clear of toxic metal alloys and I aim to use only fairmined, fairtrade or recycled gold wire. Rather than using traditional chain, I use organically farmed hemp cord. The beautiful beads I use are recycled, handmade and 100% glass.
River and Rosemary pieces can be worn anywhere; they are durable and adjustable. You can wear my jewelry knowing that you are honoring yourself and the environment.
Shells are tumbled and shaped how the ocean intended them to be. While these treasures may not be whole, they have evolved, and changed over hundreds of years-which is really a beautiful thing. The "imperfect" shells that I find at the beach turn out to make the most authentic, and unique pieces of jewelry. These shells are not ugly because they are imperfect; they are even more special because they are one of a kind --- just like us.
You can wear each piece as a connection to the earth and a reminder that nothing, and nobody is perfect. That you can find beauty in everything. Individuality makes it that much more special and beautiful; diversity is natural.
